Actors (including Rick Stonell) packed Raleigh Studios in
Hollywood Sept. 16 to attend Back Stage West's 12th annual Actorfest LA
â filled with exhibitors, career panels, seminars, workshops, and open
casting calls designed for actors interested in honing their craft and
taking their careers to the next level.
Highlights included open calls held by Disney, NBC,
Kaiser Permanente, and Renita Whited Casting, and sold-out voiceover,
improv, and dialect workshops with Terri Apple, Tim Bagley, and Larry
Moss. A Q&A discussion with Screen Actors Guild National President
Alan Rosenberg opened the festival's A-List Series discussions at the
studio's Chaplin Theater.
During the interview, Rosenberg candidly commented on
the state of the union, including the Guild's recent victory in
negotiating basic-cable television residuals for its members. He also
discussed actors' ongoing concerns about reality television, new
technologies that take jobs from union actors, and the lack of actors'
prior consent to endorsing products onscreen.
